The International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) today opened the World Youth Boxing Championship in Kielce, Poland.
Trinidad & Tobago, like most countries in the the Americas, is absent from the tournament, owing to financial and safety concerns stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
This country was one of 11 countries in the Americas region that have originally registered to attend and compete at the tournament.
Over 400 athletes from fifty-two countries are in Poland for the championships.

Trinidad & Tobago eventually was unable to host the AIBA Americas Youth Boxing Championship, which was to conclude last weekend, due lack of finances.
This was preceded by national Olympic hopeful, Michael Alexander, being critically injured in a motorcycle accident in January. Alexander is now at home recovering.
