West Indies players will begin a 3 week training camp as the the 6th ranked Test team will prepare to face 7th ranked South Africa in April. Notably, West Indies under 19 World Cup winning captain Shimron Hetmyer will not be in attendance. The Guyanese left handed batsmen was earlier left out of the ODI and T20 matches against Sri Lanka for fitness reasons, while he was not selected for the Test series. Earlier this week, the 24 year old came in for some criticism from legendary former captain Sir Viv Richards, who described the talented left handed batsman as immature.

Other notable omissions from the camp include captain Kraigg Brathwaithe and fast bowlers Alzarri Joseph and Kemar Roach, who are currently campaigning in the English County circuit. Former captain Jason Holder, who is currently the World’s #1 Test all rounder is also being rested from the camp in light of the recent workload, both internationally and domestically.
During the camp, there will be two ‘Best vs Best’ matches.
