Samantha Wallace’s hot streak just can’t stop. The former UTT shooter scored 49 goals (43 regular and 3 super shots) as she got the better of friend and national team mate Kalifa McCollin, as the Swifts beat the Magpies 62-53 on Sunday at the Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney Australia.
McCollin who missed last week’s game against Firebirds, started the game and scored 4 goals, including 1 super shot.
The game was close up to the 4th quarter, as both teams exchanged leads often in the first 3 quarters. They started the 4th quarter with the score 45-44 in favour of New South Wales Swifts, who then outscored the Magpies 17-9 in the final session for the 9 point win.
Helen Housby scored 10 goals to support Wallace for NSW Swifts, while Jamaican Shimona Nelson led the Collingwood Magpies with 41 goals.
With the win, the Swifts consolidate their 3rd position, while Magpies remain 4th, as one more fixture will be played on Monday to complete round 5. The two unbeaten teams, Giants ( first place) vs Fever (5th) in a battle of the unbeaten teams. Fever have been deducted points for salary cap breaches in 2017 and 2018 that cancelled out 3 of their wins, so they are 5th on the table with 4 points, although being unbeaten in the league.
Next week’s fixtures will be tough fixtures for both Wallace and Mc Collin as Wallace’s Swifts face Giants and Mc Collin’s Magpies play Fever.
