Trinidad and Tobago Defender, Sheldon Bateau is aiming for maximum 6 points against Bahamas and St Kitts Nevis in the next two World Cup Qualifiers in the coming days. The 30 year old KV Mechelen defender spoke to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association media in Bahamas where the Soca Warriors are preparing for their match on Thursday. The Soca Warriors then head to the Dominican Republic to play St Kitts in their ‘home’ match, as the government’s Covid-19 protocols forced the Trinidad and Tobago team to play ‘home’ matches in another country.
The former San Juan Jabloteh player said the team have some stuff they need to work on in the next few days. He adds the players have had challenges in preparations for the matches, ‘leaving your family in a time like this and just travelling in a time like this is a big risk, but we have one goal, that is to reach the World Cup.
Trinidad and Tobago are currently 2nd in Group F with 4 points from 2 matches (3-0 win over Guyana and 1-1 draw with Puerto Rico). St Kitts/Nevis have a maximum 6 points after wins against Puerto Rico (1-0) and Bahamas (4-0).
Only the group winners will progress to the next round to face the winner of Group A, who are currently Antigua/Barbuda. Those matches will be played on June 12th and 15th.
