DEON LENDORE LEADS T&T ATHLETES AT NACAC NEW LIFE INVITATIONAL

Trinidad and Tobago quarter miler Deon Lendore’s good form continued on Saturday as he won the 400m A Final at the NACAC New Life Invitational in Florida on Saturday.

Lendore won the A final in a time of 45.48 seconds, ahead of American LeShawn Merrit ( 46.22) and Bahamian Alonso Russell in 46.44.

Another T&T 400m sprinter, Che Lara, was second in the B Final with a time of 47.32 seconds, behind Ezequiel Suarez of Puerto Rico (46.79). Lara was 6th overall.

Kyle Greaux was second on the Men’s 200 final. Greaux clocked 20.84 seconds to claim silver, behind Daevuon Collins who stopped the clock in 20.73 to claim gold.

National 100m record holder Richard Thompson finished 3rd in the 100 B Final in a time of 10.27 seconds. He was behind St Kitts/Nevis’ Jason Rodgers and American Jeff Demps. The A final was won by Trayvon Brommel in 9.77. Marvin Bracey and Chris Royster completed the USA clean sweep.

Thirty-three year old Mikel Thomas finished 4th in the 110 metre hurdles with a time of 13.55 seconds. American Michael Dickson won that event in a time of 13.16 seconds.

Trinidad and Tobago placed second and Trinidad and Tobago B placed third in the Men’s 4×100 metre relay. T&T team of Kion Benjamin, Jereem Richards, Tyrell Edwards and Adell Colthrust ran a time of 39.75 seconds. The B team comprised of two members of the Olympic Gold Medal team in 2012, Richard Thompson and Keston Bledman. They were joined by Jerod Elcock and Kyle Greux and ran a time of 40.30 to claim bronze.

In the women’s 100m, Michelle Lee Ahye was 4th, in a time of 11.04 seconds, behind Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herah (10.87) American Tianna Bartoletta (10.96) and another Jamaican Brianna Williams (10.97).

In the B Final, Kalifah St Fort was 5th in 11.33, Kai Selvon was 7th in 11.43 while Kelly-Ann Baptiste was disqualified.

Reyare Thomas was also disqualified. She lined up for the 200 M final. Janeil Belille struggled to complete the 400m. She was fifth in a slow time of 1:00:07.

The women’s 4×100 m team was victorious when they beat Bahamas in the two team event. T&T ( Kalifa St Fort, Michelle-Lee Ayhe and Reyare Thomas) ran a time of 43.96 to Bahamas 44.41.
