Samantha Wallace had a perfect night, as she scored 58 from 58 to help New South Wales Swifts beat leaders Giants 63-51 on Sunday at the Ken Rosewall Arena.
Swifts led at the close of each period, 18-17, 36-32 and 49-41 as the leaders had no answer to Wallace’s dominance in the semi circle.
Helen Housby scored 5 goals in support of the Trinidad and Tobago sharp shooter.
For the Giants, who now lose 2 straight matches after a 4 straight wins to start the season, Sophi Dwyer scored 26 and Jo Harten scored 25.
With the win, Swifts move to second on the table, level on 16 points with Giants and Lightning, with the still unbeaten Fever 4th on 12 points. Fever were deducted 12 points at the start of season.
Wallace’s 58 goals took her to 272 goals for the season, second to Jamaica’s Jhaniele Fowler (338), as 4 Caribbean players make up the top 5 scorers so far this season. Jamaican Shimona Nelson is third on 249 and Romelda Aiken is 5th with 208 goals.
Next week, Wallace’s Swifts could possible go to the top of the standings as they face bottom placed Thunderbirds, who are yet to register a win. Giants and Lightning, both on 16 points play each other while Mc Collin’s Magpies face the struggling Vixens. They can possible move up to 5th, as Firebirds, who are level on 8 points with Magpies, play the unbeaten Fever.
