West Indies T20 captain Kieron Pollard is not concerned about the West Indies 16 run loss to the Proteas on Sunday.
West Indies won the first T20 by 8 wickets on Saturday before losing the second match to enable South Africa to level the series with on Sunday. The West Indies, despite having batting down to number 9 with Dwayne Bravo, could not get to the target of 167.
Pollard is not worried, the skipper told reporters vis Zoom: “the disappointing thing is not using our cricket smarts, its not matter of not getting the total because of the amount batting or what we have. It’s just a matter of using our intelligence to get the total and that is the disappointing part”
The right handed power hitter is happy the West Indies is lucky to have the luxury of having a player like Bravo at number 9, but as a batting unit, the team still needs to be careful. Pollard explained: ” One of the things we have to guard against is leaving it to the other person to finish the job, and that’s the continuous conversation that we have been having. Whoever is there, take the team home, hence the first game it was good to see Chris (Gayle) and Andre (Russell) finishing it off and guys not getting the opportunity. We will have to do that more often than not”.
With the series poised at 1-1, the 3rd T20 will be played on Tuesday at St George’s, Grenada.
