“Flabbergasted”, that’s how National Goalkeep Shaquanda Greene-Noel summed up her feeling of securing a contract to play with the Celtic Dragons in the Vitality Netball Superleague in the United Kingdom. The UTT player who represented this country at the last Netball World Cup in 2019 and last month in Jamaica, is especially happy that this opportunity will benefit Trinidad and Tobago. “For quite a while, we only had attacking players or shooters, being exposed to the professional level”, explained Greene-Noel, “but now we have defenders, so we can have balance”. Greene-Noel who missed the Fast Five over the past weekend will be joining up with her new team for the start of the season. She is also happy for “Trinidad and Tobago on a whole, because we can now showcase a wealth of talent” in our country.
Greene-Noel was full of praise for her husband, who is fully supporting her as she leaves his side to fulfill her dreams. Although recently married, she has his full support. “It was quite a difficult decision to make but I am quite blessed to have an extremely supportive partner. He is extremely proud of me”. She reiterated being a former athlete himself who knows the ‘ins and outs’ of what it takes to be an athlete, he supports her in times of ‘ups and downs’.
Greene-Noel is also looking forward to coming up against national teammate Jameela Mc Carthy who will be campaigning with the Saracens Mavericks. Wavetvtt.com will be following both players in the UK, as well as Samantha Wallace and Kalifa McCollin who will be campaigning in Australia.
