Yannic Cariah is a surprise selection on the West Indies team, as the West Indies named the 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia.
Cariah last played an official T20 in August 2016 and is not even in the CPL. However, the talented 30-year-old has done enough during his debut ODI series against New Zealand last month, with his quality spin and his batting, as he scored a 50 in one of his only 2 innings to go along with his 3 wickets.
There was also a recall for Johnson Charles, the right-handed opener is enjoying a consistent 2022 CPL campaign, scoring 227 runs at an average of 45.4, second only to Kyle Mayers in the run chart.
The full team is Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Yannic Cariah, Johnson Charles, Sheldon Cottrell, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Kyle Mayers, Obed McCoy, Raymon Reifer, and Odean Smith.
Notable absentees include Romario Shepherd, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Hayden Walsh jr, and Fabien Allen.
