An improved performance from the Trinbago Knight Riders assured them of moving up to 4th on the 2022 Hero CPL table, when they enjoyed an emotionally charged 26 run win over rivals, the Guyana Amazon Warriors, at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.
The TKR were sent in to bat first and garnered 150 for 8 in their 50 overs. Colin Munro was the star of the TKR innings when he reached 42 off 37 balls with 5 fours. Tim Siefert scored 27 and Sunil Narine had an important 26.
Romario Shepherd, who was not named in the West Indies T20 World Cup team earlier in the day, took 3 good looking wickets for 22 runs and Tabraiz Shamsi took 4 for 36.
In reply, the Warriors lost wickets throughout the innings as the second wicket partnership of 34 between Chandrapaul Hemraj and Colin Ingram was the best of the innings. Hemraj top scored with 26 and Ingram made 13. Shimron Hetmyer made 20 and Heinrich Klaasen made 19.
Maybe with something to prove, Andre Russell took 3 for 16 in his first outing since West Indies Chief selector, Desmond Haynes went on record as saying they have moved on from Russell. Akeal Hosein, returning from injury took 3 for 36 while champion spinner Sunil Narine took 2 for 9, as the Amazon Warriors folded for 124 in 17 overs and 5 deliveries.
Sunil Narine was named the man of the match.
