‘FATTO’ SCORES 22 AS PACERS HAND QUARTERS THEIR FIRST LOSS

In their first game away from Pleasantville, Quarters found the going tough, against a hyped-up Maloney Pacers at the Maloney Indoor Facility on Friday evening. Ahkeem ‘Fatto’ Boyd scored 22 to lead the Pacers to 93-72 win, as Quarters suffer their first loss of the tournament.

The game started with the expected energy, as Akheel ‘Smally” Boyd entertained the home fans with his crossovers and feints that bamboozled the Quarters defenders. But Quarters traveled to Maloney with their own supporters that contributed greatly to the hundreds of fans at the arena. They also had their own stars in Adrian Joseph and Ako Pascal who kept the South team in the game.

Pacers led 26-21 at the end of the first quarter with contributions coming from several players on their roster. Ako Pascal and Adrian Joseph dominated the early proceedings of the Quarters scoring, with 15 of the 21 Quarters points.

The second quarter was key to Pacers win, as Quarters were restricted to just 13 points. Joel Theodore who is a national beach volleyball player and ‘Peter’ a former national 400 metre hurdle champion, dominated in defence. By halftime, Quarters were already trailing 34-52, a position they are not familiar with this season.

They were not able to recover from that as Pacers increased the lead at the end of the third quarter (75-52) before eventually winning the game 93-72 to start their 2022 BBL campaign 2-0.

‘Fatto’ led the Pacers with 17 points, Kadeem Grieg added 17, and point guard Ahkeel ‘Smally’ Boyd scored 13.

For Quarter, Ako Pascal led all scorers with 26 points, while Adrian Joseph scored 17.

In the evening’s earlier game, Straker Nets beat UTT 85-60 to go 4-1 in the season, while UTT start 0-2.

Sadiki Guerra continued his rich form with 32 points to lead all scorers as Tristan Benjamin added 12. Clint Graham scored 27 points for UTT.
